Be smart, play brilliant, and master craps the proper way!
Dice and dice games goes back to the Crusades, but current craps is just about one hundred years old. Modern craps come about from the old Anglo game called Hazard. No one knows for certain the beginnings of the game, but Hazard is said to have been created by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, around the 12th century. It is supposed that Sir William’s soldiers played Hazard through a siege on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was acquired from the fortification’s name.
Early French colonizers brought the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 18th century, when displaced by the British, the French headed south and found sanctuary in the south of Louisiana where they a while later became known as Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they brought their favorite game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it more mathematically fair. It is believed that the Cajuns altered the name to craps, which was gotten from the term for the bad luck toss of 2 in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi riverboats and across the country. Many acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the creator of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn created the modern craps layout. He appended the Don’t Pass line so gamblers can bet on the dice to not win. Later, he created the spaces for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
