Be clever, play smart, and master craps the proper way!

Dice and dice games date back to the Crusades, but modern craps is just about 100 years old. Modern craps come about from the old English game called Hazard. Nobody knows for certain the origin of the game, although Hazard is said to have been discovered by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, in the twelfth century. It is theorized that Sir William’s soldiers bet on Hazard during a siege on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was gotten from the fortification’s name.

Early French colonizers brought the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when expelled by the British, the French headed south and found sanctuary in the south of Louisiana where they at a later time became known as Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they brought their favored game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it more mathematically fair. It is believed that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which is gotten from the name of the bad luck toss of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi barges and all over the nation. Many acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the founder of current craps. In 1907, Winn created the modern craps setup. He created the Don’t Pass line so gamblers can bet on the dice to lose. Later, he designed the spots for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
