Be brilliant, play clever, and pickup craps the correct way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is only about one hundred years old. Modern craps developed from the ancient Anglo game referred to as Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the origin of the game, but Hazard is said to have been created by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the 12th century. It is supposed that Sir William’s paladins played Hazard through a siege on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was acquired from the fortress’s name.

Early French colonizers brought the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 1700s, when expelled by the British, the French relocated down south and located sanctuary in the south of Louisiana where they eventually became Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they took their favored game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it more mathematically fair. It’s said that the Cajuns changed the name to craps, which was derived from the name of the bad luck throw of 2 in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi scows and all over the nation. Most acknowledge the dice maker John H. Winn as the creator of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn designed the modern craps setup. He put in place the Don’t Pass line so gamblers can wager on the dice to lose. Later, he created the spots for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
